Liverpool May Mayhem
Congratulations to all those who submitted their films in time for the 6th May deadline. We’ve been watching the films over the last two weeks and we have to say, we’re astounded at the quality of the films in competition this year! There’s not much time left to vote for the Popular Choice award, so get sharing your film on all your of social media accounts and good luck! We’ll see you at the awards.
We’ve been busy at Cut Films. As well as making sure everybody got their films entered into competition, we’ve been busy delivering the first part of the Erasmus EU Smokefree Youth Exchange in London. Myself and two young people from Liverpool went down to represent the North with 6 other young people from London, 8 from Slovenia and 8 from Sweden.
Over the week long exchange, we introduced the European participants to what we do here at Cut Films. We played some games, discussed issues around tobacco use, protested at the British American tobacco AGM, delivered presentations at the ASH Day of Action in the Museum of London, interviews MPs and made some films for the competition. We also showed the participants the world famous sights in London. It was a busy week!
From the 8th to 14th of July we will be taking the exchange to Ljubljana, Slovenia. We at Cut Films are very excited for this next leg of the exchange.
Since our last Liverpool Cut Films update we have started working with a new organisation, Deaf Active Youth. We’ve been delivering sessions in an after school club environment with some very bright ideas coming from the group of how they want to tackle the issue of smoking in film. I won’t let you in on the ideas yet, you’ll just have to wait and see. Further more we are in De La Salle at the moment and soon to start at Team Oasis. Exciting!
Finally, this year will be the inaugural Liverpool Cut Films. We will be holding it on the 28th June at the cinema in Liverpool Life Sciences school. As well as the local Liverpool awards we are looking forward to the National awards. These are being held at BAFTA HQ in London on Monday 4th July so get voting for the popular choice award for a chance to join us for a fantastic night of film and fun!
I think that’s about it for this month.
Good Luck to all you entrees and see you on the 4th!
